People often mistake fear for intuition. This makes them give up on their dreams. They bail out on asking for a promotion, asking for a raise, asking someone out, shifting to a new job, etc. So its important to be able to tell the difference between the two.
One way we can understand the difference between the two is that intuition is something that happens over a long time. If it has been talking to you for while or if it is a theme in your life and you feel that you should be doing something about it, its intuition. But when you are about to do something, say skydiving, and you feel a last minute resistance. You think, “oh I shouldn’t be doing this or I can’t do this”, then that is fear. Intuition is something that lingers on your mind for many weeks or months but fear comes at the last moment.
Another way to tell the difference between the two is to identify where it is coming from. When you are about to do something or take action and you feel something in your body, that is your fear of doing it. But intuition comes from your heart. If it comes from your head or as feeling in your body, its probably fear and if it comes from your heart, its intuition.
Understanding the difference between intuition and fear is very important as it defines success in our life. Success comes from pure perseverance and doing it anyways, going past whatever it is that scares you. Don’t listen to your fear, just follow your intuition and be unstoppable just like how Steve Jobs said, “Half the success is perseverance”.
