Resveratrol - the magic bullet?

Many people ask me, "is Resveratrol the magic bullet to health and youthful living?"

It's often tailored as such, however I don't believe there is any "magic bullet" which is the key to great health on it's own!

Resveratrol is actually a plant defense molecule (phyto nutrient) which has many benefits to the human body. It is a powerful antioxidant which is found in Red wine, grapes, peanuts, berries, and a Chinese Herb called Hu Zhang. It is great for increasing the size and number of Mitochondria (the tiny little fat-burning furnaces in every cell of your body), as well as maintaining your cells' response to insulin, turning up your body's metabolic thermostat, reducing muscle fatigue, increases muscle strength, and helping control blood sugar.

Sounds pretty good doesn't it? It is a great supplement, but

a) it needs to be taken at fairly high doses - a couple glasses of red wine will help, but you need to take it as a concentrated supplement to be able to really get it working for you

b) It needs to be taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and lifestyle

So yes, Resveratrol can help you stay young and can help your health. But not alone. Here are some quick tips to increase your health:

Eat protein at each meal

Have a good fat at each (or most) meals

Go gluten free or reduce as much as you can or at least avoid wheat flour....or what passes for flour these days

Increase, or begin taking, supplements of Omega - 3 fatty acids - go for the quality grands!

'Exercise

Detoxify your body

Find ways to relax and de-stress each day

Eat vegetables and fruits with lots of colour

To boost your metabolism  you can take supplements like Carnitine, Lipoic acid, and of course, Resveratrol, among many others. Oh, and EXERCISE!
